I also have the DEQ2496. I had poor results with the graphic EQ, but have had excellent results with the parametric EQ. Like you, I only use it to suppress the big peaks from the rooom modes.One thing I noticed was that even though I was only doing a cut of the response an no boost, the peak reading on the VU meter showed clipping on some tracks. I fix this by initially dialing in 6 dB of attenuation (which I know is too much), then play the most aggressively recorded CD I have found. This ends up being the track "Two Bass Hit" from the Miles Davis "Milestones" CD. I found that to avoid clipping I had to introduce 2.5 dB of attenuation in the utility menu.
