zacster,
Not knowing the genre of music you primary listen to?, yet my taste is all over the place with the exception of C&W, and I find it extremely easy to hear the differences between mine and usb cables I've once again owned costing say $350 - $585 - $770 - $918 - $945, I'm referring to one's make of either pure silver or silver plated copper, the only exception being the pure copper In-Akustik Referenz ( $585 one ) that this replaced along with a $918 soTM filtered pure silver usb cable within all of three tracks.
In which case, " for me " as I'm listening to Latin-jazz tracks right at this very moment, the separation of notes as well as instruments are very very easy to hear within their own given space | even with recordings from the 60s | 70s of every genre I'm able to appreciate a better sense of spaciousness | realistic portrayal of each and every note. There are some cases, where one has to ask themselves if their systems are resolving enough?.
I say this mainly because I use a dedicated $3990 music server | $5.000 Naim Audio SuperNait 3 | $4990 Italian made Mini-Monitors, ( all told, a $22.000 system including cabling | stands | footers and so forth) of which I've taken the time to understand how each is voiced..., and then when about finding the best matches of cabling | isolation footers | power cords which merely enhanced their potential to the fullest..., as I'm not the DIY'er type, I had to rely upon my hearing abilities as utilizing when I was a primary audio hardware buyer in my youth, it isn't about having a golden or trained ear, in so much as once again in my case having attended a lot of live venues, to know the truer sense of tonality | timbre when heard, no HiFi effects are needed, as I don't care about how clearly one can hear a rat taking a dump over to the far rear of the stage, just sited behind the pianist, or how clearly an airplane passing over the house sounds, once we learn to reconnect with the sound of music itself, as opposed listening to our equipment, it all becomes that much clearer to focus upon said changes.
