oh, the cane grilles do come off...

I can't remember how. The grille on the the single Esquire I have with a cane grille was loose as I acquired it. Probably tacked on with some finishing brads. I will look at it anon and see if I can glean any insight from mine.

The other three Esquires here have different grilles. :-p

If it is tacked on, I would expect that one could worry it off with an appropriate prying tool and some delicately-applied force.

The back is removable, of course. You probably knew that already. ;)
