Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

speaking of that 2285 recap, just checking the machine was

an interesting evaluation. Dave brought it over, 'no relay clicking, must be broken'.

I opened it up, put it on the dim bulb and since Dave was saying no relay click, I pulled the connections to the amps and turned it on. Relay clicked but Dave didn't hear it.

Reconnected the amps and the relay clicked again so we were getting somewhere. I showed Dave the relay, very soft engagement and he doesn't hear well out of one ear so easy for him to miss.

Now with speakers connected we tried it again, nothing but screeching from one channel and horrible noises any time a control was moved in both channels. That was the best sound I have heard from a potential restoration project being evaluated. It meant that both channels worked and this unit would only need a full recap and cleaning to be a fine example of the companies products.

The caps in it were 13000µF/63V replaced with 15000µF/80V. The B model has the 6800µF dual caps in a can.
