RE: getting my Marantz 2238 serviced tomorrow

Maybe, but I've seen the effect you've described. I would replace the switch. It's about a $20 part and requires 20-30 minutes of labor if the receiver is open already. So even if the switch thinks it's good, I'd replace it because it's a high-failure part and the fix is cheap.
