Re: Subjective versus objective listening and the warmth of Marantz.

While we're waxing philosophical (and psychoacoustical)let me add another factor.

I've observed what I'd call the "halo effect". With a new piece of gear or system that sounds noticeably different I often find it sounds "better" at first, but after a week's listening, the "halo" wears off and I begin to hear the faults. I've also had the "reverse halo", where it sounds worse, and I'm tempted to toss it right away; but if I persevere, it sounds better and better. This seems to be rooted partly in enthusiasm with a new piece of gear; and partly in the way in which subtle systems don't initially impress.

I suppose an example might be going from a pair of Advents to a pair of JBL L-100's (or vice versa).
