FB is quite correct. I have the teflon bases. Most are fine, some are corroded and a real SWINE to solder to - they really need cleaning in a persistant way. I've probably thrown a few across the room. you must open out the spigot as FB says. I use a long nosed pliers myself, just to fold back the two ends of the spigot. If you don't do this the tubes can lock in and I've had a couple come to pieces in my hand. If you open out the spigot you don't need any tool. Don't worry - loctals are great tubes and a good investment. you did the right thing. I've used loads.
