Hi ,'Basically they are garbage and to be avoided !'
...you get what you pay for ! It is to be expected that sockets that are possibly 50 years old will be corroded , simply clean the contacts . I have been using loctals since 1999 without any of the problems you describe and what do you need a mounting tool for ? It is far easier top open up the central spigot with a Philips screwdriver or smooth side of a drill bit so the valve can be inserted and replaced . The only caveat with loctals is usually the state of the valve pins , I would recommend cleaning the pins with a fibreglass pencil and polishing with a cottonbud and isoprop , ditto with the socket contacts . NOS loctal sockets (either ceramic or teflon) are readily available and cheap , if you get stuck I may be able to assist with sourcing
cheers
