Re: MC transformers

What's my price range? I only stated what I'd observed doing a little research. I know that many "audiophile grade" components are overpriced. I have no experience with MC transformers. My need arises from my disappointment with noise performance of a recent tube preamp design. I intend to try several possibilities as solutions. Allen Wright's cascoded hybrid JFET/6922 for instance. The transformer 20dB gain solution may or may not be the answer I seek. IF the difference in peformance between a $200 pair of Sowter 8055's and a pair of $600 Tamuras or Stevens & Billington transformers is substantial, I'll pay the freight. I've just not been one to dump money at a problem indiscriminately.
My lack of experience with these MC transformers has prompted me to ask the advice of the good folks at the Asylum. I truly value the opinions shared by such folks as audio845 and others who have tested more than one or two transfomers in a given system and so have a valuable finding to share. Thanks again for your help.
Stuart
