grid resistor value in combination with Miller capacitance will determine high frequency rolloff of the stage. Because pentodes have very low Miller capacitance, high value grid resistor is OK, and that's why pentodes present easy load for a driver. But triode connection with its high Miller capacitance requires much lower grid resistor for the same high frequency extension. While pentode may be fine with 500 K or even 1 M, the same tube triode-connected will require 10 times less, at least. This can be calculated by figuring equivalent impedance of Miller capacitance at various frequencies.
