Yes, I am going for the tubes with the required gain. Like I said in my post, this is based on an amp I had that used 12AU7s. I liked it. I have the schematic. I'm going to rebuild it and tweak it to my liking (hopefully). That's the plan. So I want to use 12AU7s or 6N1Ps. The quote you gave is taken out of context. The point I was trying to make is that I can actually afford decent NOS 12AU7s, unlike 12AX7s. So I'm just in the process of deciding whether to use 12AU7s or 6N1Ps.
