Without NFB the amp has enormous gain, about 10x more than it would have with 20 db of NFB.Don't get sucked into the "all NFB is bad" theory. Properly done it can be a very effective tool. Poorly done it can kill the tone of an otherwise fine amp.
The hiss and hum will diminish VERY noticeably if you install the loop NFB, and the amp will likely be much more satisfactory tone-wise as well.
Fatbottle also mentioned that added capacitance would be helpful. I agree.
