I use shunt type regulation with very good results. A shunt regulator can be rather large & very inefficient depending upon current swing (no signal vs full signal input). I do use a choke & capacitor after the shunt regulator to keep any noise out of the PS B+ output. I also understand that choke does have some minor voltage swing with varying current demands.
