A power supply gets a lot of attention for a few big reasons. First because when we started out it was the easy part to muck around with and better caps and such usually made a big difference. And second because somewhere along the line it dawns on you that everything we like to call music from our stuff is nothing but an audio induced modulation of the power supply.But later on I have come to the frame of mind that proper circuit design should remove the power supply from the equation. Differential circuits come to mind. Equal and opposite currents should cancel and not have to complete back through power supply caps.
But one can't help but hold on to things we feel we have proved to ourselves. I know I still like vacuum rectifiers and motor run caps. Even if I am striving to remove the power supply I ain't going to use no dang switching power supply:)
