Rick C.,

What is the optimum transformer to use with the 76 tube. That is my next project. What I want to say is that a 6SN7 works at about 9MA but in this circuit it needs more. I have heard a lot of people talk against the 6SN7 tube and in a regular configuration I would have to agree that they aren't the best sound I heard but they sound better than 12AX(u,t,y)7 tubes and definitely better than 6922(6DJ8). In this particular preamp it's like magic. I'm sure that a DHT tube will possible sound much better, but maybe not. I won't know until I try it. Real soon I hope.

My goal wasn't really to make CD sound better. I am hopefully doing that with the purchase of the Quad CD 99 CDP-2 I just ordered and a Lite-AH DAC that was modified by Jeff Poth. After I played this preamp with my analogue rig(Versa Dynamics 1.2 TT and an Arthur Loesch phono preamp built by me) and the results I got was so favorable that I thought I'd try it with my CD player just for kicks. Well! In my opinion this is no kicks. It sounds great! I am reviewing all of my CDs as we speak.

Also I was told that the filament on a DHT tube sounds better using AC, but that would cause too much hum. Any suggestions on that as well? What would be the filament voltage on a 76 tube?

Thanks for the input(to coin a phrase) Input well taken!
