One trick to test it is to lift the shield connection at one end of the RCA interconnect. If the sound keeps working there's at least one other ground connection. The hum may well go away. Now some people use an unsafe ground lift on the mains plug, but the correct way, if all else fails, is to get a pair of 1:1 isolation transformers for the audio signal.
