Re: Nak cr3A

I had the same exact problem with my CR-3A last year. I bought a new idler and a new belt for it myself (to save money), and I took it to a repair shop where I paid $80 to have it fixed. The service man said that he ran it continuously at his shop for 3 days, and he thought he had the problem fixed. Anyway, I brought it home and it worked alright for a couple days, then it started to stop again. I eventually decided to toss the unit in the trash.

The CR-3A was a great little unit, and I miss having it. However, I could not justify spending any more money trying to fix it.
I went to a thrift store the next day and there was a like-new, early '90's Marantz deck that I picked up for $15 dollars. No, it is not a Nakamichi, but it sounds great, records well, and it will probably last a lot longer than the Nak.

My advice would be to go to a local thrift store or pawn shop and see what you can find. Now that more people are burning CDs and downloading music, lots of great cassette decks have been showing up at those places. You can probably be able to pick-up something nice that will only cost a fraction of what it would cost to repair the Nak, and you will spend more time enjoying your tapes.
