Damian, Hi,

TDK A is TDK's lowest model - below B and two below D. It is not a particularly enervating Type 1 whatsoever and should only be used for speech, transposing micro-cassettes etc. B is quite dolby friendly, and is small notch up the ladder, perhaps suitable for off-air recordings that you might want to listen to in the car. D is better again and is really the minimum standard for music on a type 1. It's quite fresh sounding and if you have auto-cal, then a no dolby recording can sound natural and energetic. It shouldn't be first choice for classical or well recording solo instruments and acoustic, but it won't let you down with pop and music with lots of treble energy. Opt for the D when you have the choice!!
