TDK D was meant for speech recording, not music. It was durable but best to be avoided for music recording.Back in the late 1970s, when SA was relatively expensive I used to use D for recordings where quality was not essential.
AD was way better, better for some recording tasks than SA. However, the price was similar to SA and SA could be recorded with 120 setting
so it was not that much popular.
