I only have a few reels of 456, the 1/2" studio masters, where I have no choice, but those seem to be OK - you are correct, it is notorious, but not every batch.

The SM468 is the best tape out there, or rather was, as it is no longer produced.

Before that happened, I was lucky to obtain a good stock of it, which I am now using. When it runs out I will be switching to SM900 or SM911, I guess... but these are not quite as good, in my opinion.
