I agree. My beloved Akai reel to reel has a power cord that wold make a lamp shudder and the rca connectors look vaguely metalish - but not convincingly so. Conversely, it sound incredible. Assuming it has been tuned to factory specs, I would put my money on external power supply, new power chord, some WBT connectors and replace as many caps as you could find. The down side is I can't do it and I don't see a lot of ads from people who do this kind of modification. Some folks work a lot on the older tube stuff, but that seems to be a whole different price range. Anybody out there had mod work done/or does such stuff? Great idea, though, I must say.
