As others have posted that just depends. You can get 10 new Quantegy reels 456/or go for the gusto GP9 for about $100( a little more for the GP9). With that, you can make stunning tapes of anything you like - vastly superior to burning cds, minidisks, or, gasp, mp3. If you got the machine for $50 and by $300 worth of tape then you can make a whole bunch of very nice recordings for less than an i-pod. Whether you want to do this is another matter. Some folks like having 5,000 songs on an ipod in mp3 format, I'd rather have 100 really great recordings for my reel to reel. Of course, I also have a cassette deck so I'm hopeless.
