Paypal being abused?

Recently registered for Paypal to do an Audiogon transaction. Since providing Paypal with my email, three strange occurances:

First -- my banking information was requested to become "verified" account, which I refused.

Second -- received two emails purporting to be Paypal "surveys" with executable files that required to be opened, which I haven't.

Third -- email box has been flooded with spam. Which enentually the spam blocker will take care of.

Am I paraniod or should I be concerned?
