Speakers broken in yet?

I see it's been a while since you first posted. Are your new speakers broken in yet?
Maybe you're getting more bass out of them now that some time has passed. If not, it might help to run those speakers really loud for a few days on a solid state amp. If you have access to a amp/reciever with a loudness button, or a bass control that would be good. Play some bass heavy music and turn up the bass so it sounds way too bass heavy but not distorted. Then let them play like that for several days.
The idea is to loosen the bass driver up so that the bass starts to fill in at lower volumes too. Crank it up loud but don't overload it.

After burn in there are a couple of things that I noticed.

1. You should run those speakers on the 8 ohm tap if you have the option. They are a lot closer to 8 than 4.
2. You did not say the value of the pot in your passive pre. (You can measure it with an ohm meter if you don't know.) If it is less than 20K you are going to have problems with the DVD player driving it. If it is more than 10K you are going to have problems with the pot driving the amp. It's sort of a loose/loose situation.
If you really like a passive pre then you might have better luck with a TVC. I got a LOT more bass and weight when I switched from a 20K pot to a transformer volume control.
