Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: that may account for.... but quality ?

I don't think that a constant group delay is the reason.

I think that the high inductance of zip decouples the amp from the speaker. The transient info that is not pushed as current is either lost, or delayed. I also suspect that amps may not be designed with regard to inductance of the speaker runs, and damping factor in the four quadrants suffers. All adding to sloppy control of the current being delivered..(this applying only to coil based transducers, of course.)

For an amp, I could easily see how cross conduction at the output stage with high speed transients opposite of the high power, could be generated, especially during absorbtion quadrants, and I still state rather emphatically that most supply designs are horrible w/r to coupling loops. Nevermind the wires from supply to the outputs...but I digress.

That, on top of all the topology issues with unbalanced, common ground very high power gain systems.

My thoughts are that building an absolutely accurate pure resistive load is the first step to measurement..then figuring out how to measure all the couplings I've identified, and how the whole kit and kaboodle interacts.

As for the nay/yay issue...I see a lot of fault on both sides.

As for doing science: Nordmark did that in '76. Yah, I'm applying it as scientifically as I can to the problem, but JR was the one who found that earthlink and sent it to me as a FYI. And mtry was the one who found the article for me.

Although I realize mtry and Jon have a past "relationship issue", so to speak, I would not be discussing lateralization if not for both of them and their contributions..

Perhaps the fence can get just a little less tall?

As for what I am doing? Hey, maybe I'm barking up a dead end tree, and nothing is there...but for me, it's not the end result, it's the trip, and what I learn along the way.

Cheers, John
