My favorite resistors are custom-made with a tantalum-neodymium film from a firm in Japan whose name I can't reveal. The best part about these resistors is that I can hit them with a hammer ten times. I use a 26 oz. framing hammer and place the resistors on a target of stainless-steel that has been machined flat to within 12 micro-inches. The hammer velocity upon impact is approximately 104 feet per second, for an energy dissipation of approximately 277 newton-meters per second squared. I have tested 3000 of them this way, and only one has failed. These are really great resistors. Does anybody else know of any other resistors that will pass this test?
It doesn't matter what they sound like. It also doesn't matter that this test has nothing to do with audio. It's just that I'm a framing carpenter, and I like to link my hobby with my profession.
Best regards,
Dr. Demento
