A continuous metal shield is always nice, but these usually simply don't exist.
Any opening in the enclosure is an entryway (or exit) for the RF energy. Narrow gaps as short as 3" will allow energy in.
Any windows, holes, etc all let it in and out.
ALL cables and connectors do the same, unless done in some very special ways.
To build a mass-produced and not too expensive enclusure with several connectors on it, display, buttons, etc., and sports shielding efficiency of 40dB or more is not trivial, not matter what it is made of.
In shielding it is not the material that determines the performance, but the physical design of the enclosure.
