"Using false information to judge your audio decisions"

"Using false information to judge your audio decisions can lead to either spending too much money for something you don't need, or to making outright wrong decisions that hurt your listening ability."

What exactly is "false" information in this case? Are you talking about false claims by manufacturers or just the unreliable nature of casual listening? What sort of "wrong" decision would actually lead to the degradation of one's listening ability?

As for spending too much money, it's a hobby. If the buyer enjoys the purchase why should we worry? Audiophiles really don't need to be saved from themselves. This isn't life a support system we are talking about it is entertainment.
