Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Are you sure? (long)

Hi.

First off, most wiring inside walls & under floors in older domestic & commercial premises of wooden structuress are not run inside metal conduits or flexible ducts. The power lines in my house run 'naked' w/o metal conduits at all.

The current building codes in North Amercia permit AC line wall sockets hooked up in series before going back to the breaker panel. This means there are miles long of AC power line loops running around, concealed, inside the house or building althoug we don't see them.

This will act as handy receiving antennae for RFI/EMI emitted from
wireless devices in the close vicinity, e.g. cell phones, cordless phones, wireless mouse/keyboard, wireless PC modems, plus compressors of frigs & freezers, etc etc etc.

I did carry out test on RFI/EMI on AC lines in my house & my audiophile friends' residences in different areas powered by dfferent power companies. The exercise was to find out how bad is our household AC power line contamination.

Measuring the AC wall sockets with a brandname digital wideband power line EMI noise analyser, I read 99-103mV EMI noise level at my home & my friends' homes many block away.

One thing quite unexpected was: radio broadcasts were heard from the monitor speaker on the analyser !!!!

There is the reason why I don't use any AC wall sockets for my audios which would otherwise like getting drinking water from a sewer - very unhealthy for sound.

For the same reason, I DIY installed discrete power lines 120V & 240V for all my audio gears hooked up direct from the fuse panel.

Needless to say, discsrete DIY AC power line filters are added for the separate power lines for both analogue & digital (CD & DVD-audio & DVD video players) gears. Never mix up power lines for analogue & digital components.
