I thought this would be a subject of considerable interest. There is one item contained in the linked article that really caught my eye, that being Ed Meitner's assertion that differences were easily measured.Have you ever tried a product such as Vivid, Optrix, Shine-Ola, Auric Illuminator or any other of this ilk? There are a considerable number of these types of products available in the market now. These along with the Intelligent Chip, NESPA Optical Finalizer, Reality Check CD, and some other devices like the Bedini and Furutec would 'seem' to operate by improving the discs surface 'transparency' through cleaning, polishing, OR in some way altering the polycarbonate and/or data layer. I haven't tried them all personally, but the ones that I have very clearly result in a perceived* change. The placebo effect is one explanation of course, but I think we do ourselves a huge disservice by stopping there when looking for the answers.
It would be quite interesting in my view if someone were to make a thorough examination of these methods. I'm obviously not equipped in terms of technical understanding or measuring equipment to do the job. My hope is that someone who is will step up to the plate here.
