You don't know the half of it! But I should tell you that I go through that for every thing I try in the system; I give everything the best chance I can. For all of that, after everything was said and done, it turns out that the XLR version is one of the better cables that I have tried at any price, add in the fact that they were GIVEN to me, and I have to say that they are the best value of all!It is just that the Tao's bass isnt obvious or exagerated as it is in some of my other cables; its bass tends to a subtlety rather than a big boom. Where the Tao truly shines is in the smothness and detail in the midrange and highs. My listening buds give the Tao the highest marks of all my cables for smoothness and musical detail.
It all comes under the heading of "everything effects everything". If I change one of the other cables, or move to a different treble or bass amp the rankings change. With exactly the same amps, speakers and preamps I have had my system run the gamut in sound from Naim-like leaness to tube-ike richness and thats before using any eq or signal processing (another tale entirely).
This is a very strange hobby, isn't it?
