Re: Leaving it alone

Klaus, you have stated something very important to me. You don't believe in the audio listening experience.
You are like the folks who don't believe that there is no significant taste difference between Coke and Pepsi.
We have been evaluating double blind listening tests for almost 30 years. I made my first contribution in 'The Audio Amateur' directly confronting Dr. Lipshitz, in 1979.
In conclusion to my arguments, this is what I stated then:
"To oversimplify the design criteria is an injustice to the efforts of designer continuing to research audio problems, and a disservice to the customer who might glibly think that audio has reached an as yet unattained state of perfection."
I found, even then, that small differences were almost impossible to hear in ABX double blind testing. I guess that I should have, like some others at the time, go into another field, because everything tended sounded the same in a double blind test, BUT subtle sonic differences always reappeared in open listening comparisons.
Well, I glad that I didn't quit improving my designs, and I am pretty sure that my best efforts today, are better sounding than my best efforts 15 years ago, and certainly 30 years ago. Yet they would measure about the same, and might not even be noticable in a double blind listening test.
