Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

Hi Bob!

Hi Bob! In my response below, I stated that their are over 1,000,000 places you can go in, record, and leave with product and that these places are in that business. IF you read the fine print, I did not state that this was limited to the US. Including all the project studios, the number of machines (such as ADAT, DA88, CDR's, computer based workstations) do you feel this number to be an exaggeration?
I was not kidding about OVER 400 facilities in my meager town of 100K. They are registered and have business licenses!
If you take the number of pro tools platforms sold in the last 5 years, the ADATS, the DA88's, even the PV3700/3800...the picture comes in clear... It was stated over 100000 ADATS alone are in circulation and just about every church now (large scale) had a full production facility and they hire it out. Most artists have their own facility.

I have what is referred to a medium scale facility. 3 mixing desks (2 of which are large scale devices). Full analog to full digital, full mastering and tracking, remote or in house, 20+ years. Based on how many are doing it for peanuts now...with sad results and that this quality of work is actually making it into the mainstream..and we know a project studios excell in demos, would you think since they are in business...they count at all?

My first facility was 6000ft Sq. It was a joint venture with 2 other engineers and a record label and of course investors :) This one takes up 3 buildings. I would not classify myself as a project studio...but one wonders if it would not be a good idea to open a smaller facility on grounds with a Young engineer being tutored correctly to "compete" with all those little protools and nuendo facilities littering every block of real estate? I would like this poster to get a sense of what they are up against and the investment in both time and materials it takes to keep the lights on, (Not to mention the politics back scenes) and to keep people from going wild, spreding rumors that cost money and clients.

Your thoughts please..
