I've had first hand experience with the Crown MacroTech Series 1200 & 2400 both of those amplifiers performed well in a nightclub setting. The Crest and Carver Professional amps have also been pretty good and a bit less expensive. With a live band playing it's difficult to compare the sound quality of the amps with so much distraction around the club. The amps I've heard will hold there own in a club setting.
I have used the Crown and Carver amps in my home system. Compared to mid-audiophile amps Aragon, Adcom and Parasound the professional amps are a less harsh which could also be translated as less detailed. I didn't mind the sound of them at all in a home setting. They all seemed to have a strong mid-range, deep bass and mild treble. The only thing about professional amps is that they are designed to be small to fit as much power as possible in a 2-2-1/2 rack space so you always have a fan that runs.
For running bass-bins we used two Crown Macro Tech 2400s one channel for each 18" JBL driver.
