If your backpack is big enough...

... you could stuff in the old Koss ESP-9 phones with their power supply. They were a little more polite than the cheapie Grados, but still very revealing. Of course, adding 30-year-old electrostic phones may not be the most sensible thing from a reliability point of view, but they *were* very good.

Have you listened to any of the more expensive Grados? I would probably start there. BTW, I don't find the SR-60s to exaggerate the highs, although the upper midrange may be just a little pronounced.
