Check you RAM. When RAM gets below 40%, this happens.The software uses quite a bit of Random Access memory, and if you are not running at the bare minimum 128MEG, then those problems can occur.
Yes...even on a Mac !!
Try closing down everything you can, especially any programs that are running in the background. If your G4 has a resource meter, I like to have 92% or more free accessable RAM, before I even use any audio programs. Check the resourses, and go again. If all else fails, delete the program, and re-install it from scratch, after backing up your favorite presets.
