Compressor usage.

Hi,
I have a compressor question. For live sound with a rock band I am trying to integrate a compressor into our PA. We only run vocals, keys, and kick drum to the PA. Right now I am running the compressor pre fader on the boards aux loop. Is the correct way? Or should I be putting it before a channel input (isnâ€™t pre fader aux essentially the same as this?)? Or maybe post fader? Or should I be putting it between amp and board?
One more question. Is anyone familiar with the Alesis NanoComp? Can it do compression and limiting at the same time? If not what is more important to have if you can only have one or the other?
