Based on what you have mentioned in your post, I would suggest you consider the HD Meyer (maybe difficult to find) or Mackie. The only Alesis I like is the discontinued 0.5. Yamaha - worst sounding studio monitors that I have ever heard. Paradigm - Atom and Titan good, Studio 20 would be in your price range. B&W and Dynaudio are not my choices even though they both make some fine speakers. There are Genelecs in your price range. Spendors, Harbeth, Rogers, NHT and Hafler also worth auditioning. Have not heard the Dunlavy's, but I respect them.I would disagree with the post on Event speakers. They are not in the same league as the speakers you have indicated interest in.
