I'd second that recommendation. The Hammerfall stuff is great! I use the hammerfall 96/52 card, and I have the Hammerfall 8 channel hi def converter, not that I use it that often as I also have a Sony DMX-R100 digital desk that I can directly interface with the hammerfall card, or my Pyramix Mykeniros card. I would, however suggest that you look at doing your mixing within the computer system, if you have decent software. Logic Audio, Cubase etc. Your major benefit will be the quality of the sound that you will be able to achieve, coupled with the amount of sound manipulation you can do. ie compressor on every track if you require, 50-100 tracks of audio, virtual instruments, etc. This is far more power than your mackie desk could hope to supply. I have completed one album project on Logic audio, have another two in various states of progress, and have mixed two hours of a live jazz set from Ronnie Scotts, London, in surround for a Music DVD. All these projects would have been far more difficult both from a technical point of view, and also sonically had I chosen to try mixing them on say an SSL, Neve, Euphonix, etc.Lacking in experience in digital audio or not, I would strongly suggest that you owe it to yourself to check out this kind of technology, and try to get with it, its the way the industry is going, and will give you great benefits for little expenditure.
