You have hit the nial on the proverbial head exactly!!!
I can't getover the Beavis and Butthead mentallity that my two nephews have (the one is 16 while the other is 15), and its not looking very bright for the 16 year old's 8 and 4 year od brothers, who emulate his every move! While I know this is not the place for this type of discussion (it is after all Audio Asylum, not Modern Parenting! hehehe...), I do find that the intensity of todays music recording (ie, serious levels of compression), maximized as close as possible to 0dB full scale on CD (and even the LP versions have little or no dynamic range), has caused many people (I catch myself doing this) to increase the average playback level of this stuff, simply because the amp/speaker combo is being asked to reproduce a benign signal (no serious peaks to clip the power amp or overdrive woofers, tweeters, etc.), thus giving a higher average level- the whole idea of compresion and limiting in the first place!
Best regards,
Dman
