HelloFirst...their are 80 mins CD's out there...And I have gone as far as 80:43: (frames) 21 on an 80 min CD.
Secondly...
MP3 format can allow up to 600+ mins. of decent quality out of a standard CD-R. You save them in MP3 File format..(I usually use a bitrate of 160KBS for "good enough for archive quality" when burning CD's to MP3 format.
Many MP3 CD players on the market now...as my DVD can play mp3 encoded CD's.
Apex has DVD players that support the format...as well as many portables.
Creative labs has the nomad unit. www.creativelabs.com and I think for your needs the Mpeg layer encoding will do what you need...especially on the lowfi master stuff.
You can select from very low bit rate (thousands of mins on a CD) to normal (128K) to high rez (CD quality) at 320KB/sec.
Check out a search on MP3 encoding. You will need a wav. to MP3 encoder. You will need to have a machine (besides your computer) to play MP3 encoded CD's. If you are pleased with your computers sound ..i/e connected up to audio system..then yopur computer hard drive and CD rom drives will accomadate this.
I have a wonderful time archiving 78 RPM records to MP3. My Apex DVD player will contain well over 400 songs...on a single CD.
Email me if you get confused and need futher info. I am quite pleased with the quality I get with Mpeg encoding and decoding on my archives and even send files to other studios for demo purposes in this format of 12:1 commpression...although I stick to 8:1 for most sharing. Even FM stereo radio has adopted the format for advertisements and programme.
Check it all out and be pleased that your answer is there.
