I live with a Mac at work and a Dell at home. I run Peak 2.1 on the Mac and it works wonderfully. It does not have any plug ins to do viynl restoration (clip and pop removal etc.) but it's almost fool proof as a basic two channel recorder. Sound card is an Audiomedia III.At home I have Sound Forge 5.0 on the Dell and it's very similar to Peak in terms of use. The sound card is Turtle Beach's Santa Cruz. I can't afford SF's audio restoration software yet.
Peak and Sound Forge both offer inexpensive "light" versions of their two channel edit programs if you're on a budget. My advice would be to invest in a decent sound card for the computer as you can always upgrade your software programs later.
I'm using the home system primarily to record and transfer an old 78 rpm collection to CD and mini disc. It's works well for my needs. Good luck!
