The Sennheiser's are exceptionally good these days, and Sony have in recent years produced some excellent closed ear phones. AKG's aren't bad, but to my knowledge the range is basically the same as it was 10 years ago. I would however warn against trying to balance on headphones, difficult to get an accurate mix, in comparison to speakers.Good luck
