Re: Altec Voice of the Theatre vs. New Pro speakers

I didn't take part in this post earlier, because I did not realize I was familiar with the VOT. I have just seen the design on a website, only to realize I built 2 pairs in 1980. They were quite respectable, we fitted them with EV 15" drivers, using them in a three way PA System at the time. They were resonably smooth sounding with an adequate bass, maybe a touch on the "wooly" side with reasonable efficiency. I would agree with Jack that alongside the better modern designs they wouldn't hold their own, but I still see many terrible bass boxes these days, amongst them things like the EV's, Turbosound and EAW's which really don't sound very great.

I think its a shame that in this day and age where the technology is available so many PA systems are built for maximum SPL at the cost of high quality sound. I can think of many systems that I have used, that ultimately leave me cold.

My $0.02 worth anyhow.
