Re: Near fields for home listening?..downside?

17 years ago, my search took me into a high end stereo store. I had heard small Tannoy, Urie, JBL, Yamaha. Heard a pair of ProAc Studio One, now called Studio 100, about $1500USD today. I bought these and a midfi B&K amp. These worked well in a large room, and I sill have them in my bed room at 2m away from where I sit and read. The BK amp is long gone, and the ProAcs have some mods, but these will be around a long long time. Any speaker with closely placed drivers will be fine in the near field. Do get a second, small pair, set it up near the mixing position, for playing at very low level to double check the mix. Then get a real junky pair from a thrift store to make sure the mix is OK on a boom box.
