The only other issue is that the SPL will not be as high as rated since you lose some dbs for the distance.

Nearly all the manufacturers that make nearfield monitors also make midfield as well. These would be a better choice for 7-8' listening distances. For 16' I would reconsider getting normal studio monitors.
