There are methods to alter Qts, but none wil double it, as the 2205 would require, and the xMax would still be inadequate unless loaded ian about a 20 cu ft horn.

You're best off to download WinISD ASAP so that you can model out any driver and know it's limitations before you buy; a goodly percentage of them are in the program's data base.

Your assumption is based pretty much on the drivers available before 1990 or so. The most popular sub driver size today for both large pro-sound horn-loaded $5k(and up) boxes and $400 direct radiator home subs is 12 inch. The latest state of the art HT subs, both direct radiator and horn-loaded, do use long-throw 8s, drivers that did not exist even two years ago. One of those designs is the AutoTuba, which you can see at my site.

I would not recommend high end (over $150) pro-sound drivers for the average home, as there are many other far less expensive alternatives available that will performer far better in a home, unless your home is Carnegie Hall.
