Major oops here.

Like many high SPL pro-sound drivers this JBL is not suitable for sub use; the .21 Qts and 30 Hz Fs combine for a 62 Hz F3 in a 2 cu.ft box; a dual chamber 4th order (2 cu ft rear, 1cu ft front chamber tuned to 50 Hz) gets F3 to 45Hz but the response peak is too sharp for it to be useful. Then consider the 2.5 mm Xmax (why your cone bottoms out) and you should see that as a sub driver the 2205 doesn't make it, either in pro-sound or the home. This driver was designed for hi output midbass and that's really all it will do well unless mounted in a very large horn loaded box. In the home it can easily be beat by a $30 long-throw 8 designed for subwoofer use.
