They really need an amp that will put high current on the rails.They don't really come alive unless you put some juice to them.
Then they become very musical. It's like the music just floats into the room. The 801's can be magical with the right amp.
Any number of amps just can't keep up with the 801 series three.
I had one of the big haflers - can't remember model but it was the largest or one of them - on extreme orchestral crescendos the Hafler would kick off on overload. I tried a large B&K amp. It held up but didn't sound the best.
Happiness for my 801 series III, matrix was a Counterpoint SA20 Hybrid.
The counterpoint put some juice out. That was a very musical combination.
This is an excellent example of system synergy. Possibly, the Ashley might not sound too swift say on High Efficiency horns, but be right at home with the 801's. The 801's obviously like the Ashley.
