Computer based CDR's are now overshowdowing the outboard units !You can get a 12X Plextor (Creative 12.8.32)AND a pro Sound card with optical , and coax in/outs Plus software to master, and get better results.
I would not said this a year ago.
I hardly use my outboard standalone unit anymore.
Cost has come down, and you may even be able to throw in a good preamp as well.
At this time, I see no real advantage to a stand-alone unit.
SBM is something Sony has had around for 10 years, and my Computer based workstation is bit error free. Sounds as good as they come.
